Throughout my life I’ve been given a lot of nicknames – some embarrassing and some appropriate – but one that always stuck with me is: “Mom’s Little Helper”. You have to realize that my mom became an solopreneur at the age of 20 when she started her own pet grooming business. I came along two years later and I practically grew up at the shop. One of my first memories is learning how to make bows out of ribbon for the clean animals to wear when they were finished. As I got older I would spend my days answering the phone, setting appointments, sweeping up hair, and washing out the sinks. My Mom never paid me – it was just what I did. I liked helping people.
After graduating Plymouth South High School, I attended Suffolk University, earning a degree in International Business with concentrations in Marketing and Management. When it came time to decide on a career, I always came back to the same conclusion: I liked helping people.
So I joined the corporate world and worked as an executive assistant in a variety of different industries from banking to shipping. But after 10 years, a wedding, and a baby, I found that working in the corporate world was not ideal for me and I longed for a way to balance both my personal and professional life in a fulfilling way. With the encouragement of family and friends, I decided to strike out on my own, putting my extremely organized, detail orientated personality to its best use and doing what I excel at: helping people.
I have taken my experience and expertise and formed The Modern Assistant. My goal is to help small business owners, solopreneurs, and freelance professionals become more focused, productive and efficient. I enjoy helping my clients build their businesses by handling those tasks that they can’t do or don’t have the time or desire to do. By not having to focus on the small stuff, I aim to give them time to focus on networking, building client relationships, innovating, selling, creating new products, and being creative. I like to work individually with every one of my clients, getting to know them, understanding their business, and catering to their unique needs. I love that I get to work with creative people who have a passion for their business and products. It is incredibly fulfilling to help them focus on what they want to be doing and to be a part of them achieving their business goals.
